Apparently, what they say is true – some things really do run in the family. Namely cooking. That’s right – I am actually capable in the kitchen without a recipe. It turns out I AM my father’s daughter.
Last night, I was too tired to make a new dish or try a new recipe so I set out to just make some boring pasta with basil and mozzarella. Then I realized I had some shrimp and a red pepper and perhaps if I cooked the red peppers with the shrimp and some garlic and then added basil and sauteed it all together, that it would maybe be a more flavorful and enjoyable dish.
Well apparently I was right! It was delicious!
I realize this might be absolutely logical for some people, but for someone who has shied away from cooking her whole life and felt very out of control in the kitchen prior to the past two months, the simple ability to just whip something up that actually tastes good still feels a little bit like a miracle.

It was such an on the fly let’s see if this works meal that I don’t even have a recipe to post here. I’d have to do it again and mentally note exactly what I’m doing and how much of everything I’m adding and mixing in. But whatever I did worked and I was extremely pleased with myself. Of course, to be fair, if you cook red peppers and put them in anything I’m usually happy, but the fact that I not only made this myself but thought to take a chance and cook all these things together is serious progress as far as my cooking goes.
Whoever said people can’t change their ways and their thinking never met me. Serious pat on the back for yours truly.

Wonderful, Pets. Had it with many different colored peppers, and it was a beautiful dish! Served it with grilled steak – a bit of pepper with a bite of steak – pure heaven! Thanks!
